HOW TO DRY FLOWER PETALS
There are many different ways to dry your flower petals. Here are some earth friendly ways.
- HANGING UPSIDE DOWN
Turn your bunch of flowers upside down and hang them in a cool area without sunlight. Make sure there is enough air circulation in the room. It’s effective for drying large amounts of flowers. A good place is a garage or a shed. Drying time depends on ambient temperature , generally 1 – 2weeks.
- AIR DRYING
Remove the stems and just leave the petals of the flowers. Best to use a rack or tray with muslin or something that will allow the flowers to breathe. While it will take a few weeks for them to dry, the good thing is they retain their colour well.
- OVEN DRYING
Set the oven to 40 degrees Celsius. Place the flowers on a tray in the oven checking them every 15 minutes or so and then turn them over. The time it takes to dry depends on the flowers. It can take minutes to a few hours. You will know once they are dry when they are crisp.
- FREEZE DRYING
Allow the flowers to be fully open. Make sure the flower stems have been fully cut to the flower head. Place your flowers in an airtight freezer proof container. After 10 to 12 days open the container and check that the flowers are dry. The colours should remain intact.
